Thousand Islands Land Trust conserves land in the 1000 Islands region of New York State. This includes the islands in and the shoreline along the St. Lawrence River between Cape Vincent, NY and Oak Point, NY on the US side of the Canada/US border. Parts of the TILT lands are public access and make for beautiful hikes through forests, meadows and along the St. Lawrence shore.
What You'll See

- Macsherry Trail – Located at the Crooked Creek Preserve in Hammond, the Macsherry Trail has a three mile loop out to Crooked Creek and back. A shorter 1.5 mile loop travels through the interior forest. Click here to download a trail guide.
- Sissy Danforth Rivergate Trail – Built on the old Penn Central Railroad bed in the towns of Clayton, LaFargeville and Theresa, this 27 mile trail is a great place to hike, bike, ski and more. The Rivergate Wheelers ATV Club is one of several ATV clubs that help to maintain the trail; they have a trail map on their website.
- TILTreks & Talks, KidsTreks and TILTKids Camp are annual series of educational programs that give you many opportunities to Get Out on the Land! Some are field trips to a preserve for a bird walk or an historical tour, some are recreational outings like bike rides and kayak paddles, still others are discussions and presentations on wildlife or habitat preservation. You will always learn something!
Located on the mainland shore of New York State and Grindstone Island locations.
